Compliant hiring across 15 countries supporting global climate initiatives
Enabled rapid scaling to 28 employees within months
Improved benefits consistency across a globally distributed workforce
About
The Global Methane Hub is a global philanthropic collaborative established following the Global Methane Pledge at COP26. Backed by a coalition of over 20 philanthropic organizations, it was created to fund and accelerate efforts to reduce methane emissions, one of the most powerful drivers of climate change. The organization began operations in 2022.
The Global Methane Hub organizes and unites governments, industry leaders, scientists, and non-profit organizations across the globe to minimize methane pollution through technology and common-sense public policies and regulations. Its high-impact initiatives deliver fast, measurable climate benefits at scale across the waste, energy, and agriculture sectors.
Challenge
The Global Methane Hub needed to build a globally distributed team to support its climate initiatives, particularly across the Global South. This meant hiring regional experts across 15 countries in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Europe, including Brazil, Chile, China, India, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.
Initially, a small part of the workforce was engaged as contractors, creating challenges related to compliance and consistency across regions. As the organization scaled rapidly, it needed a more structured and reliable way to hire internationally, one that could support compliant employment and enable its small People & Operations team to manage a growing global workforce effectively through a single partner.
"Compliance and consistency across countries were our biggest challenges as we started to build a global team."
— Olachi Nzuruba, People & Operations Manager, Global Methane Hub
Working with Atlas HXM
The Global Methane Hub partnered with Atlas HXM in January 2024 to support its rapid global hiring plans. The organization quickly scaled its workforce, onboarding 19 employees through Atlas HXM within the first four months.
Atlas HXM enabled the Global Methane Hub to hire full-time employees across 15 countries without establishing local entities within the first four months, while also converting a small number of existing contractor relationships into formal employment arrangements where appropriate. Atlas HXM provided a consistent framework for payroll, benefits, and compliance, allowing the organization to grow its global workforce efficiently while keeping operations streamlined for its lean People & Operations team.
Impact
With Atlas HXM, the Global Methane Hub scaled to 28 employees across 15 countries, making global hiring a core part of its operating model. What once felt like a complex, country-by-country effort became a streamlined process, enabling the organization to hire where needed to support its climate initiatives.
Onboarding new hires in different countries is now part of a consistent rhythm rather than a standalone project. With a single global partner, the People & Operations team can manage compliance, payroll, and benefits more efficiently, while also working toward greater consistency in employee experience across regions.
"We're always striving for benefits consistency across our different countries. Atlas HXM has robust benefits data, and with their supportive team behind us, I'm confident we can keep improving as we grow."
