In Latvia, financial support for child care is available to citizens, non-citizens, foreigners, and stateless persons who have received a personal identification code. This allowance, managed by the State Social Insurance Agency, is designed to aid those taking care of young children under the age of two including parents, guardians, adopters, or court-appointed caretakers.

Child Care Allowance in Latvia

The child care allowance is available regardless of the parents' employment status or social insurance contributions. For children under 1.5 years of age, the allowance is EUR 171 per month per child. For children between 1.5 and 2 years of age, the allowance is EUR 43.69 per month per child. Additionally, an extra EUR 413.43 per month is provided for the care of a disabled child until the child has reached 18 years of age.

General Child-Raising Allowance

Latvia also offers a general allowance for raising children aged 1 to 16. The monthly benefits are structured to support larger families more significantly, as follows:

  • For one child: EUR 25 per month

  • For two children: EUR 100 per month
